Company communication: where to start?

Illustration: one message shared between teams, clients, management and candidates

Informing your teams, making your organisation known, protecting its image, recruiting, giving people a reason to stay: company communication covers very different topics, and it is rarely possible to tackle them all at once. Here is how to spot your priority of the moment, and the course that matches it.

1. Start from the problem to solve

Before choosing a tool or a channel, ask yourself a simple question: what is getting stuck the most today?

  • Information does not reach the teams, or reaches them too late.
  • Your clients, partners or the media know little about your organisation.
  • Management does not yet have a clear message about its mission, values and commitments.
  • Positions are hard to fill, or new joiners do not feel welcome.
  • Teams lack buy-in, or do not understand why decisions are made.

Each situation calls for a different kind of communication. Here are the five main families.

2. Five priorities, five entry points

  • Inform and mobilise your teams: internal communication. Choose your channels (email, team messaging, intranet, meetings, notice boards), write clear messages, build an editorial calendar and support change.
  • Make your organisation known: external communication. Build a communication plan, work with the media, write a press release, monitor your online reputation and prepare for a possible crisis.
  • Build management’s image and message: corporate communication. Positioning, institutional narrative, stakeholders, governance communication and the annual activity report.
  • Attract and retain talent: HR communication and employer branding. Employer value proposition, job ads and careers page, welcoming and onboarding new joiners.
  • Strengthen engagement: communication that serves your people. Listening, rituals, culture lived day to day, recognition of contributions.

3. One consistent voice, inside and outside

These five areas overlap. What you promise clients must be known to your teams, an announcement made to employees can end up outside the organisation, and a job ad is read by candidates but also by clients and partners. It is better to link your messages together from the start than to handle each topic in isolation.

4. Three habits to get started

  • Set a goal and an audience before choosing a channel.
  • Take stock of what already exists: channels, materials, messages already shared.
  • Track a few simple indicators, then adjust.

5. What about generative AI?

Generative AI can help produce a first draft: an announcement, a memo, a job ad, a post. It does not replace proofreading, fact-checking or your organisation’s own tone. In our company communication courses, it is used while keeping control of the result. To explore the topic further, see our course Produce and review professional content with generative AI.

6. Train with Antipolis Formation

Conclusion

There is no single starting point: the right one is the one that answers your organisation’s most pressing problem. Once the priority is clear, the rest is built step by step.
